A Hard Year
2025 was a very difficult year for me and those closest to me. Chief among these difficulties, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
As a tribute to both my mother and my heritage, I wanted to make something for my mother. I always associate her with makwa, the bear. However, I was once told by an elder that healing should be accompanied by both predator animal and prey–he suggested that bear fur and deer fur, for instance, were more balanced and more powerful. I’ve always felt more aligned with deers than bears, and I tried to recreate that here.
Either way, it is a hope for her continued strength and a testament to her presence wherever I go.
