Meditation
56.1% is something of a mantra for me. 56.1% is the number of Indigenous women who report they are impacted by sexual violence. 56.1% is the reason I do the work I do. 56.1% was the reason for this project.
I find peace when attempting to paint the East Woodlands Revival style. It was the first Indigenous art movement that spoke to my own heritage and background, and the motifs and shapes are familiar to a very young part of me. This was a quiet, simple meditation on the beauty of our art and the legacies of violence affecting us.
